I’m having a little trouble getting traction with processing my photos, but I promised Kathy a “36 Exposure” collection of highlights from our trip. So while I work on that I thought I would write a quick summary of our trip, with more photos and stories to follow.
We flew into Dublin on Friday morning 5/8. After a late and quick breakfast at our hotel, we headed out to join a walking tour of the city. That gave us an overview and helped acclimate and orient ourselves to the town. The following day we had pre-booked a tour of Trinity College, including a visit to the Long Room of the library and a view of the Book of Kells. We followed that up with a visit to the Irish Whiskey Museum. That’s right, a museum about Irish Whiskey!
The following day, Sunday 5/10, we met up with our first tour. We had booked a 6-day Driftwood Great Southern Tour with Vagabond Tours, exploring the southeast coast with overnights in Kinsale, Ballycotton, Waterford and Kilkenny. Great tour, details later!
We returned to Dublin on Friday 5/15, and after 4 days exploring Dublin we headed by train to Galway, where we spent another 4 nights. Galway is the music capital of Ireland and we loved it! Details later!
Upon our return to Dublin we joined our second tour. It was a 15-day Driftwood All Ireland Tour, also with Vagabond, essentially hitting many of the highlights while circling the island, with stops in Belfast, Carnlough, Derry (Londonderry), Donegal, Kilronan, Westport, Connemara, Clair, Dingle, Sneem and Gougane Barra.
We returned to Dublin on Sunday 6/7 and flew back to Charlotte on Monday 6/8. Whew!
