On Location

One of the challenges I face when taking so many pictures on a long tour is remembering where they were all taken. My cameras don’t have built-in GPS, and while there are apps and attachments that would provide that information, I’d rather not have another gadget to figure out. So what I usually do is take occasional “index” photos with my phone, so I can use the location information from the phone to sync my captions and keywords. That works great, except that in Ireland we spent a lot of time out of cellphone range, and in order to preserve my phone battery I would put my phone in airplane mode. In that case, all my location information is the point at which I last had my phone turned on. Not terribly helpful!

In the case of this photo, the specific location is not crucial, so I am able to use something more generic. I like to be as specific as possible as much of the time as I can. But sometimes close enough is close enough!
