Back to Kinsale (kinSALE) again….

On our morning in Kinsale, our guide offered us the choice of sleeping in or visiting the Old Head of Kinsale. Guess what I picked? 😉

The Old Head of Kinsale is a spit of land jutting out into the Celtic Sea, on the south end of Ireland. At the very end of the peninsula is a (very-hence the barbed wire in some of the photos) private golf course. But the isthmus just before the entrance to the golf club is narrow enough to view the spectacular scenery on both sides. It was our first glimpse of the many famous cliffs we were to see on our adventure.

The nearly sheer cliffs on the west side are home to hundreds, if not thousands of nesting shorebirds. They are barely visible in my photos, despite a 200mm lens. It was probably one of the few times in Ireland where I wished for the 300.

The views were amazing, both near and far. The light was beautiful and the scenery spectacular. I’m very glad we didn’t decide to sleep in!
