I just read the weekly email from our local liquor store manager and philosopher, and he was promoting their line of THC-infused drinks as an alternative to alcohol for those observing “Dry January.” That’s a thing for some people. But if you are replacing alcohol with THC is that really “dry?” Seems to me that is just trading one drug for another. Maybe it is somehow “better,” but what do I know?
Happy New Year!

If I drink dry white wine or really dry whiskey, do I get credit for a Dry January? Asking for a friend…

I’m not sure that fits the “spirit” of Dry January…. 😉 But you do you!

Thank you, Howard! Hope you are staying warm in the north country….

First, I’m impressed you get a newsletter from your liquor store and a bonus of some philosophy! I read an article on the new craze of these drinks recently, how it’s a bit of the wild west, and how it is the result of a provision in the 2018 farm bill of all things. The alcohol lobbyists obviously involved now in getting some more legislation. Best wishes for 2026!

The store is called Southern Spirits and is just over the state line in South Carolina. The newsletter is called The Boozeletter it and comes out weekly featuring new items and special events. The store does a lot of single barrel picks and has a lottery every Saturday for allocated items. At the end he always writes what he calls The Epilogue (which he used to call The After Rant but decided to be more positive). He often shares interesting opinions.
