On Barbados we booked a catamaran cruise with Calabaza Sailing Cruises. I’m not much of a swimmer, and although I have no photographic evidence we did swim! We went mainly for the experience of visiting the waters of this beautiful island aboard a catamaran with only 12 passengers and 3 crew, as opposed to the 50+ passenger mega cruises sold by the cruise lines. Calabaza operates a top notch cruise – we had cruised with them once before and loved it. The food and drink were great, the crew friendly and helpful, and it was an excellent experience from the time they picked us up at the port for the 10-minute drive to the boat, to the time they dropped us back off at the cruise terminal.

For this outing I had dusted off my trusty Olympus TG-4 that I’ve had for years. It’s rated as shockproof and waterproof, although I’ve never tested it for either. But I didn’t want to bother with my Fuji camera, knowing that the Olympus still takes some pretty decent photographs, although photographing on and from a bobbing catamaran is a bit of a gamble regardless of the camera. Mostly I didn’t have to worry about getting splashed with salt water!

I just love wandering around the boat with a camera, looking for things and scenes that catch my eye. Mostly it is about chilling and absorbing the island vibe though, which is mostly what we did!

Beautiful! Give me a day out on the water anytime! Great images, too… a nice story of the day.

We’ve always enjoyed being on the water more than in the water. Being on the ocean is one of the things we love most about cruising!

I love the blue sky in this series of images. I have never been on a catamaran and think it would be a hoot. My sister and a friend of hers did a cruise on a sailboat where they worked as part of crew. They had a blast!

Sailing on a catamaran, especially in the Caribbean, is a great way to relax and enjoy a day!
