Shadow Geeks

Wall and shadows along Wigley Avenue, Basseterre, St. Kitts

Monte Stevens recently made a post on his blog titled “Seeing Shadows.”  The comments indicated a general affinity for shadows and I am also a fan.  About the same time Monte made that post I was making these photos, unbeknownst to each other.  Within a few days, anyway.

I wish to suggest that we may be known as Shadow Geeks.

I like these photos – a lot! I also like the expression “Shadow Geeks”. Can I use that? I don’t have much in the way of shadows prominently featured in photographs. Could be that we get a lot of overcast skies here and shadows like these are hard to come by.

      Hi Ken –

Feel free to use it – I just made it up! I sometimes get a little tired of the soft light/magic hour/can’t take a good photo in daylight stuff and shadows appeal to my contrarian nature! Shadows are our friend!

Thanks for the plug, Tom. I smile as I accept, along with many others, the new title of Shadow Geek. We do fancy the play of light and are not just pointing a camera. We are seeing!

      Hi Monte –

I suppose we ought to be a little careful, or else we solitary, casual, shadow-loving photographers may inadvertently start some kind of a trend. And you never know, since one thing leads to another we may all start doing something really risky like using shallow depth of field!
